- ➤ Roanoke County Fire & Rescue responded to a house fire on the 1300 block of Goodwin Avenue at 10:23 p.m. on August 16—finding one resident dead, one firefighter injured, and about $200k in damage while officials reported no sign of foul play. WDBJ7
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Gas prices in Roanoke fell by 5.1 cents per gallon over the last week, averaging $2.89 as of August 18. Rates are now 2.7 cents lower than last month and 33.3 cents less than last year—local data shows prices ranging from $2.59 to $3.99. WDBJ7
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Roanoke City Public Schools is rolling out its student ID program districtwide today with a two-week grace period—students from Pre-K to high school and staff must wear their badges for safety and quick identification.
