  • Members of Oxford House Chapter 21 hosted a donation drive that offered a Thanksgiving-style meal and warm clothing amid the continued winter chill in Roanoke. Leftover items were given to a local shelter & the event highlighted the group's commitment to supporting neighbors.  WDBJ7

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Cold winter weather has settled in, leading to canceled school exams and mixed reactions among residents who enjoy the brisk seasonal spirit and those who struggle to adapt. Authorities advise residents to dress warmly and walk safely on ice-covered sidewalks in the valley.  WDBJ7

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Virginia has been approved by the U.S. Department of Agriculture to limit SNAP purchases for sweetened beverages starting on April 1, 2026. Governor Glenn Youngkin said the policy will strengthen nutrition programs and help reduce chronic health issues.  WSLS 10
  • Jackson Gunter, a third-grade student from Highland Park Elementary, will present his plan today at the Roanoke City Council meeting to improve Highland Park with cleaner grounds, repaired playground equipment, and added picnic tables. He submitted photos + proposals to support his ideas for a safer park.  Cardinal News
