COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Yesterday, local volleyball players in FourHill City hosted a Veterans Day fundraiser—raising money for veterans in a community event that honored military service.  WDBJ7

  • Nearly 400 veterans in Virginia have experienced homelessness, and local agencies in Roanoke have used programs from state, federal and nonprofit groups to secure permanent housing—nearly 200 people have been housed while 51 veterans wait for housing referrals. Veteran Justice Specialist Jared Rose, who turned his own struggles into advocacy, said current support helps veterans adjust to civilian life and that efforts will expand as more housing becomes available.  WFXR-TV
