- ➤ Salem’s minor league baseball team, formerly known as the Red Sox, rebranded as the RidgeYaks after nearly two years of fan feedback and unveiled its new logo and mascot —Mac the Yak— at Salem Memorial Ballpark. The team remains affiliated with Boston and will begin play on April 2nd. WVTF
- ➤ Averett University canceled its football season after a post-game altercation on November 8 due to sportsmanship concerns, and Guilford College agreed to end its season.
