- ➤ Nazier Jackson was elected 2nd Vice President of the NAACP Virginia State Youth and College Division at the 90th annual convention held October 24th-26th in Richmond. The Roanoke NAACP Youth Council celebrated his win as he represented local youth across the Commonwealth. The Roanoke Tribune
- ➤ Hundreds of people lined Downtown Roanoke streets to honor U.S. veterans at the Virginia Veterans Parade. Local groups and schools participated while crowd members waved flags to salute those who served. WSLS 10

- ➤ Salem’s Minor League baseball team rebranded on Saturday at Salem Memorial Ballpark and will now be known as the Salem RidgeYaks. The team also introduced its new mascot, Mac the Yak—depicted riding a kayak with a baseball on his horn—and remains affiliated with the Boston Red Sox. WFXR-TV
- ➤ Roanoke native Ronnie Thomas became Longwood University's head men's basketball coach in March and led the team to a 92-55 win on Nov. 3 over Mary Baldwin University—local fans now hope he will build the program to new heights. - ➤ The Salem Red Sox have been renamed the Salem RidgeYaks after the team unveiled a new identity on Saturday at Salem Memorial Ballpark — the design honors the Blue Ridge Mountains and local outdoor culture.
