COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Mast General Store will host a Howl-O-Ween Dogs Day Out event on October 25 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in downtown Roanoke—dog owners can enjoy Ruffwear fittings, treat samples, a caricature session, and other fun activities while keeping pets on a leash.  WFXR-TV
  • Yesterday the Holiday Hot Rod Round Up event gave early Christmas gifts and rides to local kids—community volunteers worked hard to bring joy during the season.  WDBJ7

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A fire damaged a garage in Roanoke County on Oct. 23rd—firefighters secured the site and began investigating the incident.  WDBJ7

BUSINESS NEWS

  • FairWay Pharmacy is a cost-plus pharmacy in Roanoke that charges medicine at cost plus a $12 dispensing fee—owner-pharmacist James Pates said it opened in July 2022 and has already served 1,000 customers while still growing.  The Roanoke Times

CULTURE NEWS

  • Family-friendly Halloween events are set on October 25 across Southwest Virginia—Roanoke County's Explore Park Spooktacular Saturday features pumpkin carving, a costume parade, and a nighttime zipline, while events in Historic Smithfield, Falling Creek Park, South Boston, and at the Kirk Family YMCA offer additional activities. Residents have many options to enjoy early Halloween celebrations in a safe and engaging way.  WSLS 10
  • Taubman Museum of Art is hosting an exhibition that depicts 200 years of American history using artifacts and images — the display opened yesterday and invites local visitors to explore key moments from the past.  WDBJ7

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Students at enCircle’s Roanoke Minnick School attended Career Day on Thursday to turn classroom lessons into real-world career experiences. Local organizers and role models provided hands-on sessions to build confidence in young learners — aged 5 to 22.  WSLS 10

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Residents can drop off unused and expired medications at local collection sites on Saturday, October 25 (10 AM to 2 PM) to protect the community and the environment.  Roanoke County
  • The Virginia Department of Forestry said fall colors are peaking this weekend as amber, rust, and crimson hues spread across the Allegheny, Blue Ridge, and Massanutten mountains. Southwestern Virginia and the Alleghenies—showing the most vibrant colors—will offer the best views while the Shenandoah Valley and northern Blue Ridge near peak.  WFXR-TV
