- ➤ Southwest Virginia community colleges are helping close the skills gap by offering career-focused training in health care, manufacturing, and more. Officials say schools like Mountain Empire, Virginia Highlands, Southwest Virginia, and Wytheville awarded hundreds of licenses and certificates last year and are key to Virginia’s plan to award 300,000 credentials by 2030—boosting job skills in our area.
