- ➤ The annual Clear the Shelters campaign ended in August as 18 local shelters reported nearly 1,000 adoptions. 10 News featured a pet each day to help animals from dogs to guinea pigs find new homes — marking the campaign as its most successful year. WSLS 10
- ➤ Angels of Assisi will host events this weekend where residents can support the facility or adopt a pet—facility spokesperson Carol Jessee discussed the plans during an interview. The organization will release further details on event times and locations soon. WDBJ7

- ➤ A GasBuddy survey of 4,081 stations shows that gasoline prices in Virginia fell by 7.0 cents per gallon in the last week and now average $2.96 on Monday; the price is 2.1 cents lower than a month ago and 7.7 cents below last year, while the national average dropped to $3.12 per gallon. ABC 13

- ➤ Franklin County officials announced plans to boost recruitment for school bus drivers by offering incentives to attract new applicants and secure student transportation for this school year. WDBJ7
- ➤ Board member Mark Crabtree proposed that Patrick and Henry Community College take over NCI’s workforce programs at the Baldwin Building in Martinsville. - ➤ Today at 7:00 p.m. at City Hall, the Roanoke City Council will discuss an amendment to the city codes that would ban hybrid canines unless owners register them and the animals follow rules for dangerous dogs. - ➤ Today, a new coalition of Virginia natural gas companies including Roanoke Gas and others has been formed to back natural gas use in meeting rising electricity demands.
