- ➤ Roanoke police are searching for a heavyset man (approximately 5 feet 7 to 5 feet 10) suspected of committing an armed robbery at a gas station on the 2100 block of Crystal Spring Avenue SW around 5:34 a.m. on Friday after he pulled a gun and demanded cash from an employee before fleeing while wearing a black beanie, dark mask, reflective jacket over a black jacket and white shirt, and white and black Nike shoes. - ➤ Roanoke Police said they are searching for a suspect who robbed a Southwest Roanoke 7-Eleven early on August 29 by using a gun to demand cash and then fleeing the scene; the man is described as heavyset, between 5’7” and 5’10”, wearing a black beanie, dark mask, reflective vest, black pants, and white/black Nike sneakers—details that could help identify him. - ➤ Gas prices in Roanoke fell 7.4 cents per gallon last week, averaging $2.87 per gallon according to GasBuddy's survey (155 stations). They are 10.7 cents lower than a month ago and 18.3 cents lower than a year ago. WDBJ7
- ➤ Local businesses in Roanoke will soon access the Business Equipment Incentive Program that gives matching funds to help cover equipment costs. Applications open on October 1 at 8 a.m.—manufacturing and industrial firms may receive up to $20,000 while commercial and retail companies can get up to $5,000 under a 50/50 match. The Roanoke Star

- ➤ Roanoke College reported on September 2 that its President’s 25 initiative raised over $1 million in cash and pledges from 41 supporters—an anonymous donor matched the amount to bring the total above $2 million. The program requires members to commit $5,000 each year for five years to build endowed student financial aid for future students. WFIR News

- ➤ A section of the Blue Ridge Parkway near the James River will be closed starting Sept. 9 for major repairs that include fixing the bridge deck—installing a new asphalt overlay and replacing bearings.
