- ➤ Roanoke-based nonprofit Domestic Abuse Disruption Inc. (D.A.D.) will close its doors at the end of September after more than 13 years of service as founder Trey Gregory cited ongoing health challenges. The organization will continue providing scheduled aid through September but will not take on new cases. WSLS 10

- ➤ Yesterday morning, an airplane became disabled at the end of Runway 6-24 at Roanoke-Blacksburg Airport — both occupants were uninjured and the runway was closed as Virginia State Police are investigating. ABC 13

- ➤ A wrongful death lawsuit against Roanoke County police was settled for $1 million after an officer fatally shot a mentally troubled man during a standoff at his home. The Roanoke Times

- ➤ The Roanoke Valley will host its first-ever LEGO fan convention, the BRICK CONVENTION, at the Salem Civic Center from Sept. 6-7 plus professional LEGO artists will display their creations and meet fans while a portion of the proceeds goes to Creations for Charity to help underprivileged children during the holidays. - ➤ Botetourt County is expanding its Read Mountain Fire Station on Eastpark Drive and relocating the 911 center from Fincastle to double dispatch capacity— a groundbreaking ceremony is held today at 10 a.m. and work will finish next year to improve emergency response times. WSLS 10
- ➤ New projections show that redistricting will reduce Southwest Virginia's seats in the General Assembly to three House delegates and one state senator by 2050 as the region’s population declines—local candidates worry this shift will lessen its influence in state government. Cardinal News
- ➤ At a broadband event in Bedford County on Wednesday, Sen. Mark Warner said fiber-optic cable is more reliable than satellite for speed and reliability in rural areas and announced he would ask the commerce secretary about funding to cover cellular dead spots.
