  • Today, ABC13 stands with WDBJ7 as it remembers reporters Alison Parker and photographer Adam Ward, who were fatally shot on August 26th, 2015.   • A disabled vehicle in the north right lane and right shoulder at mile marker 139.5 on I-81 is causing delays for northbound drivers in Roanoke County — officials are monitoring the situation and working to manage traffic.  WSLS 10

  • A man pleaded guilty to killing a Roanoke woman on Aug. 25—officials say his plea resolves a case that had sparked community concern.  WDBJ7
  • Washington County deputies fatally shot an armed man who fired at them during an alarm call response on August 25 in the Evergreen subdivision of Bristol—no deputies were injured and the investigation is ongoing with state agencies assisting.  WFXR-TV

ECONOMY NEWS

  • GasBuddy’s survey shows Virginia’s average gasoline price rose 9.5 cents per gallon last week to $3.06 on Monday — prices are 6.3 cents higher than last month and 14.4 cents lower than a year ago.  ABC 13

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Governor Youngkin attended the opening of the Excel Center — Virginia's first adult high school — at Melrose Plaza in Roanoke where 75 adult students began classes to earn diplomas in eight weeks. The program, created by Goodwill as a public-private partnership, offers free courses, childcare, and transportation to help more than 500,000 Virginia adults, including 14,000 in the Roanoke Valley, complete high school.  ABC 13

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Mountain Valley Pipeline is outlining a plan to build a new compressor station that would boost capacity 25% and locate it in Elliston near Rowe Furniture, although the company has not yet formally applied for approval. Local activists led by Crystal Mello are organizing opposition due to concerns on noise—pollution and an overburdened industrial area.  WVTF

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Roanoke Valley home sales reached a new milestone in July as the average sale price soared past $419,000—realtors said the trend shows that higher-priced homes are selling while overall prices are not rising as much, and sales were the highest since 2022.  WFIR News
