- ➤ Joyous Givers Youth Center is a nonprofit where kids ages 6—13 meet on Mondays for girls and Wednesdays for boys at 3330 Hollins Road in Northeast Roanoke. Coach Freddie Johnson and his wife Cynthia started the center to help children stay away from street violence and build good values while volunteers and donations keep it running. The Roanoke Tribune

- ➤ Roanoke officials rescued seven people after a vehicle was reported disabled in high water on the south side of Shaffer’s Crossing on Thursday at 7:40 p.m. and brought them safely to higher ground by 8:05 p.m. — police and Public Works placed barricades to stop additional vehicles from entering the dangerous road. - ➤ Roanoke police are looking for three suspects who spray-painted a gym on Orange Avenue NE on August 14 at 2:18 a.m.—the damage is estimated at $500 and suspects were captured by surveillance cameras. ABC 13
- ➤ The Bedford County Sheriff’s Office is looking for Cory Lamont Glover—accused of a hit and run, property damage, making felony threats, violating a protective order, and contempt of court—and he is a 36-year-old Black man weighing 250 pounds with black hair and brown eyes. WDBJ7

- ➤ Jamal Nubi, a Roanoke native who grew up on Jackson and Rorer Avenue with family support, is now a professional recording artist using music to share his journey.
