ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A downed tree blocked both northbound lanes on 220 near Franklin Road and Webb Road in Roanoke County late Friday morning — police later reopened one lane and warned drivers to expect slow traffic. WDBJ7
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Roanoke is collecting residents' stories and photos for the Roanoke Remembers project to mark the 40th anniversary of the Flood of '85 in early November, and over 60 memories have already been submitted. City officials plan to finish gathering accounts by early September and will share them online and at fall events—Flood. WVTF
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ On the first day of school, Cave Spring High School named Hassane Doucure as the new knight for the class of 2026—he was chosen for his integrity and community leadership and will have his portrait displayed in the school hallway.
