CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Roanoke police said an armed man robbed a bank on the 100 block of McClanahan Street SW just after 10 a.m.—he is still at large and was seen wearing a gray hoodie, blue face mask, white button-down shirt, and blue jeans. ABC 13
- ➤ Roanoke County Police arrested a 19 year old suspect Bryan Lamonde-Smith in connection with a suspicious death investigation that began in July when officers responded to a report on the 2000 block of Ridge Road—he is held without bond after facing indictments for second-degree murder and abduction. - ➤ Roanoke County police responded on July 7 to a suspicious death on Ridge Road and a grand jury indicted 19-year-old Bryan Lamonde-Smith for abducting and fatally harming 22-year-old Anthony Shoemaker—he was arrested without incident on August 11 and is held without bond at the Western Virginia Regional Jail. - ➤ This fall in Virginia, the Shenandoah Valley Limited will offer a 3.5-hour ride on the only surviving N&W 611 steam locomotive—covering a 60-mile route in Goshen with rides every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday at 9 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. from September 26 to October 26, and tickets are on sale now. ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Virginia officials said last year freight rail removed 16 million tractor-trailers from highways—each railcar replacing about 3½ trucks—to ease congestion and improve safety for drivers. The state’s rail programs will continue to help lower road maintenance costs and boost traffic flow. WSLS 10

- ➤ Glen Cove Elementary opened its new administration wing as part of a renovation project that began in September 2024—open-concept classrooms were replaced with defined spaces to improve instruction and accommodate more students and faculty.
