- ➤ Roanoke police said a man died early Sunday morning when his Infiniti EX35 left the road, hit two AEP utility poles, and struck a tree on Shenandoah Ave NW—closing the roadway for the day. Investigators are working to determine the exact sequence of events. ABC 13

- ➤ Roanoke schools will benefit from the Load the Bus campaign starting Aug. 1 as buses parked outside Walmart stores in the Roanoke Valley collect supplies during Tax-Free Weekend from Aug. 1-3—backpacks, notebooks, and glue sticks are among the items needed. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ On Monday, the Roanoke City Council approved a $25 million LOCBAN to address a backlog in city maintenance projects by funding priority repairs to elevators and HVAC systems — the measure will spread funding over the next five to seven years. Mayor Joe Cobb said the bond carries a fixed interest rate of 3.92% on drawn funds and is supported by the recent meals tax increase. WSLS 10
