- ➤ On Friday, rescue crews in Dante responded to severe flooding when a woman was sucked into a culvert and swept 2,000 feet downstream before a boat from Cleveland saved her—13 people were injured and 36 were rescued while several residents were displaced. Cardinal News
- ➤ A man died when his Infiniti left the road and hit two AEP utility poles and a tree in Northwest Roanoke early Sunday morning—Roanoke Police said the roadway remained closed due to the damage. WSLS 10

- ➤ Roanoke's federal court has seen a sharp increase in immigration charges as 32 people were charged with illegal reentry after deportation this year, up from 13 during the previous administration, and federal prosecutors say enforcement priorities set by the current government have driven the surge & questions remain over whether the accused fit the violent criminal label. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Salem Planning Commission unanimously recommended that city council approve a rezoning request for a 171-unit townhome development on Newman Drive proposed by ABoone Real Estate Inc. during a public hearing where residents raised issues about traffic, property values and flooding — concerns somewhat eased by a study that found minimal delay increases — and city officials will review these factors at an upcoming meeting. - ➤ Today, Roanoke City Council holds a public hearing in the Council Chamber at 215 Church Ave (2 p.m. council meeting and 7 p.m. public hearing) to discuss using up to $25 million to pay for unfinished repairs on city buildings. The plan uses funds to fix elevators with $4.3 million, HVAC with $14.3 million, electrical upgrades with $1.8 million and boilers with $1.2 million, helped by extra revenue from a 1% meals tax.
