  • Tickets for Banana Ball weekend at Salem Memorial Ballpark are extremely hard to get — one official compared the challenge to securing Taylor Swift concert tickets, and the event starts tonight.  WFIR News
  • Roanoke Area Ministries raised over $2.4 million for its new Jain Care Center at 410 Elm Ave. S.W. in Old Southwest and finished interior demolition while planning renovations to start this week; the nonprofit will complete the facility in early spring to serve the city's unhoused and elderly.  The Roanoke Times

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A fatal tractor-trailer crash in Sussex County on Thursday killed Roanoke man Keith Michael Loback when a westbound Freightliner was struck on the driver’s side by debris from an eastbound truck—officials said the vehicle left the road and hit trees, and the investigation is ongoing.  WSLS 10

CRIME NEWS

  • Henry County deputies arrested four people this week after a Greensboro Road traffic stop led a K9 to detect suspected drugs and a firearm, and a search of a residence on Eggleston Falls Road uncovered more evidence with one suspect held by ICE (Juan Bravo-Morales) for alleged drug and firearm offenses (the investigation is ongoing).  ABC 13
  • The Bedford County Sheriff's Office is seeking Justin Antwan Berger, a Black man around 5 feet 9 and 250 pounds with brown eyes and balding hair, who is wanted on multiple charges including possession with intent to distribute controlled substances, firearm violations, felony eluding and counts of distribution — officials ask anyone with information to contact them immediately.  ABC 13
  • Authorities in Botetourt County released the suspect's name from a recent standoff & law enforcement officials are investigating further details of the incident.  WDBJ7

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Jefferson Center unveiled its eclectic new season lineup that will feature bluegrass legend Ricky Skaggs, Americana star Molly Tuttle, and the Roanoke debut of the Squirrel Nut Zippers. Early ticket sales will begin Monday, July 15 for donors of $100 or more — general ticket sales start Tuesday, July 29 at the box office.  WFIR News
