  • Bubba’s 33 partnered with Homes for Our Troops to help build adapted homes for post-9/11 veterans — every Patriot Burger purchased adds a dollar to donations and one lucky customer wins free burgers for a year when entering in person — while the promotion runs until the end of July.  WSLS 10
  • Volunteer rescuers at Smith Mountain Lake warned boaters to wear life jackets and take safety courses before renting boats this summer — many renters lack the local experience needed to navigate the waters safely.  WDBJ7

  • Police arrested a suspect after a bomb threat was made on a plane bound for Roanoke yesterday—authorities say he is now in custody.  WDBJ7
  • A man was taken into custody after a bomb threat was made on an Allegiant Airlines flight leaving Clearwater on July 6—police said a verbal dispute led to the claim and the plane returned with all passengers deplaning safely.  WFIR News

HEALTH NEWS

  • Carilion Clinic staff and officials are launching a public fundraiser in Roanoke to raise $4 million for a new cancer center — part of a six-year campaign to meet a $100 million goal.  The Roanoke Times
  • Nourished Roanoke held its 'Drip for a Cause' charity event on Sunday in Cave Spring to support 4-year-old Daisy Gilmer, who was diagnosed with DIPG in May and given a prognosis of 2 to 4 months—discounted IV infusions and vitamin shots raised funds for her family. Bethany Nichols said the event allowed the Gilmer family to spend extra time with Daisy during her limited time.  WSLS 10
  • Carilion Clinic announced its final push for $4 million to complete a $100 million campaign for a new cancer center on the Virginia Tech Carilion campus — the center will expand its space and double patient capacity with advanced treatments. Appalachian Power warned that water levels below Claytor and Leesville dams could change fast — Gov. Youngkin also announced state board appointments including local residents.  Cardinal News
