- ➤ Roanoke City leaders honored Booker T. Washington Park with a proclamation on July 5th marking its 102nd anniversary as the park has long served as a historic haven for Black residents—Mayor Joe Cobb noted that new amenities are planned to keep its legacy alive. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Roanoke Valley and James River Chapters of Jack and Jill of America held this year’s Teen Leadership Conference in Richmond from June 19th to 22nd with nearly 800 teens attending workshops, college fairs, and community service projects. The event featured guest speakers and ended with a Sunday worship service at the Richmond Convention Center. The Roanoke Tribune
- ➤ Hollins University named Tiffany Hinton acting vice president for Student Success, Well-Being, and Belonging effective July 3, replacing Dr. Gary Brown. Hinton—an experienced leader—will direct student counseling, health, and housing services to support campus inclusion. The Roanoke Tribune
