COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Monday night, the Roanoke Jewish Federation honored local high school athletes Sam Dowdy, Addison Becker, and patriot Grace Williams at its annual B’nai B’rith awards banquet. Dowdy will attend VMI after playing football, soccer, and golf, Becker plans to join Liberty University as a track, cross country, and wrestling athlete, and Williams will go to Virginia Tech this fall. - ➤ Nelson County deputies arrested 22-year-old Katelynn Hipes after investigating the April murder of Kevin Small, who was found naked on a tractor on Serenity Trail and reportedly shot inside his home while a delivery driver discovered his body the next morning—Hipes faces charges of second-degree murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony with a bond appeal hearing set for June 16.
