GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Building inspectors in the three counties around Smith Mountain Lake have updated dock safety rules after a teen drowned last summer from stray voltage. Officials now advise residents to avoid docks with submerged boat lift cradles and urge dock owners to inspect electrical systems regularly—measures introduced in August and September to help prevent future accidents. - ➤ Scientists at Virginia Tech’s Fralin Biomedical Research Institute at VTC found that a lab-made drug called JM2 slowed brain tumor growth in animal tests by targeting cancer stem cells & not harming healthy cells.
