- ➤ Roanoke residents known as plawkers gather several days a week to walk along local streets—such as Melrose Avenue—and pick up trash and socks that spark a friendly challenge. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Roanoke will test a three-lane road diet on Williamson Road this fall for six months to see if the new setup can improve safety after nearly 300 crashes in the past five years. The project will run from Compton Street Northeast near Orange Avenue to Angell Avenue Northwest (close to the Williamson Road branch library) as city officials work to reduce traffic risks despite mixed local reactions.
