- ➤ Late Saturday night, a car hit a home on the 2000 block of Routt Road Northwest in Roanoke, leaving two people injured and taken to a local hospital—two residents of the home were displaced by the damage. WSLS 10

- ➤ Hitachi Energy is investing $22.5 million to expand its facility in Bland and build a new warehouse in Atkins—creating 120 new jobs to meet rising demand for electrical grid products. The project is expected to boost energy innovation in the region. WSLS 10
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Virginia Cooperative Extension will hold a Farm Profitability Workshop on June 1 from 2—3:30 p.m. at the Brambleton Center gym in Roanoke to discuss an analysis that shows farmers’ markets and farm shares are not profitable; Agriculture and Resources Agent Shawn Jadrnicek said the workshop will explore new strategies by comparing local practices with those in more successful markets and will provide a Zoom link for remote attendees. - ➤ School Board Chair Andy Raines will present Salem’s proposed 2026 school budget today at 6:30 p.m. in City Hall—this plan increases funding by about $432,000 for schools and includes tax cuts and raises for city and school employees. Cardinal News

- ➤ Montgomery County supervisors will meet today at 7:15 p.m. at the county government center to review Fotheringay LLC’s proposal to amend the comprehensive plan to allow up to 473 homes near Eastern Montgomery schools—county administration supports the change and critics warn the plan could strain local services and alter the rural character of the area—officials will vote later on rezoning the property. - ➤ Pet iguana Echo was treated for a tumor near his eye at Virginia Tech’s Animal Cancer Care and Research Center and now shows no signs of cancer coming back.
