- ➤ Therapy dogs from TheraPets of Roanoke Valley visited the Roanoke-Blacksburg Regional Airport just before the 2025 holiday rush to ease travel anxiety among flyers. Owners say the visits helped foster calm and friendly interaction (including Scout, Lucy Lou, and Trooper). WDBJ7
- ➤ Local volunteers, including resident John Carlin, built five wheelchair ramps in under two hours on Saturday at the Build Smart Institute to help seniors and those with mobility issues. The Renovation Alliance has offered free home improvements since 1999 using community donations. WSLS 10
- ➤ Local agencies collaborated on Roanoke Drug Take Back Day this past Saturday, offering free VIN etching to deter car theft, opioid overdose training, and a safe station for expired medications. - ➤ A community event in Ferrum kicks off today celebrating local barbecue and moonshine heritage. The festival will feature traditional recipes and local music (a nod to regional history). WDBJ7

- ➤ Roanoke and Salem police hosted the bi-annual National Prescription Drug Takeback Day to safely dispose of expired medications. The DEA later incinerated the collected opioids — officials hope the drive will reduce local opioid misuse. WDBJ7
