- ➤ Jean Jadhon, a longtime news anchor at Your Hometown Station, will retire after 33 years of service. Her work covered big events — like breaking news in Roanoke — and she will stay until the end of May. WDBJ7
- ➤ New trails are under construction at Mill Mountain as part of a project that will add over 4 miles of paths and boost the trail system by 30%, including three downhill-only mountain bike tracks — a first for the park — with work set to finish early this summer. Residents are asked to use alternate routes until the work is complete. The Roanoke Star
- ➤ The Bus Riders of Roanoke Advocacy Group named Orange Eastbound at Moriah (Market Square East) the winner of its second annual Sorriest Bus Stop Contest after noting the stop has no sidewalk, lighting, or safe crossing. The group will hold an award ceremony on April 10th at 5 p.m. and plans to bring all sixteen stops to the City Council meeting on April 21 to request funding for improvements. The Roanoke Star
- ➤ The Roanoke Regional Housing Network will host its biennial Housing Symposium on May 1 at Charter Hall at the City Market—housing experts, policymakers, and community leaders will discuss affordable and workforce housing challenges. - ➤ The Least of These Ministries reopened after three weeks of renovations that doubled its available showers and laundry services — meeting urgent needs of homeless residents in Roanoke. Founder Dawn Sandoval said she hopes to work with city leaders to create in the meantime housing and a tiny house community while the ministry operates on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. WFXR-TV

- ➤ Attorney General Jason Miyares announced a multistate opioid settlement with pharmaceutical company Mylan that will deliver up to $335 million nationwide—Virginia will receive about $6.6 million to fund treatment, prevention, and recovery efforts over nine years. The Roanoke Star
- ➤ Virginia Tech received a $1.3 million grant from the Appalachian Regional Commission to lead natural gas conversion research in Southwest Virginia+focusing on developing a hydrogen hub that turns natural gas into cleaner energy. The project will form local partnerships + offer workforce training programs to boost economic growth in the region. The Roanoke Star
- ➤ The Town of Buchanan issued a boil water notice Tuesday, April 8 after a water main break cut off water to some areas, and local health officials advised residents to boil tap water or use bottled water for drinking and cooking. Officials said water restoration was expected later Tuesday evening—tests for contaminants will continue for the next three days until the notice is lifted. WDBJ7

- ➤ Family Service of the Roanoke Valley is seeing more referrals for youth mental health services as children ages three to 17 need help after ten-year-old Autumn Bushman took her own life last month—her death was linked to bullying. The agency said it faces a 75-day waitlist for youth services and a 23-day waitlist for young adults while a Celebration of Life for Autumn is scheduled at 3 p.m. on April 13. WSLS 10
