ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A fatal crash on Monday around 6:30 p.m. on Roanoke Road in Botetourt County killed three people, including 61-year-old James Roosevelt Winston, Jr.—driving a Jeep on Route 220—and two Roanoke passengers, 50-year-old William Julian Cosby and 34-year-old Corey Allen Byrd, and authorities say speed was likely a factor. - ➤ Roanoke Fire and EMS responded at 2:07 a.m. on April 1 to a house fire in the 100 block of 14th Street in southwest Roanoke—firefighters controlled the blaze by 2:34 a.m. with no injuries, though two residents were displaced and the cause is under investigation. WFXR-TV

- ➤ Virginia may become the first state to use a new device that stops drivers from speeding when Governor Glenn Youngkin signs a bill that will require convicted reckless drivers to install a speed limiter instead of facing license suspension. The small device — designed to fit on an air vent — is set to be part of the Intelligent Speed Assistance Program when the law takes effect in July 2026. WSLS 10
- ➤ Salem officials held a meeting to explain a bridge replacement project for Apperson Drive; phase one will start on July 1st and last nine months while traffic flows on one lane two-way—local businesses and residents said the work is long overdue.
