ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On March 31, fire crews answered a call on Garst Mill Road in Cave Spring where a fire displaced a family of four—three adults and one child—as the blaze, which started in the kitchen, was brought under control in about 15 minutes and no one was injured.  WDBJ7
  • The Virginia State Police investigated a fatal motorcycle accident in Botetourt County on March 29 when 27-year-old Darnell Wesley Adams from Maryland lost control on Route 460E—he hit a brick wall at the Blue Ridge Parkway—and died later at Roanoke Memorial Hospital.  WFXR-TV

CRIME NEWS

  • Roanoke police are investigating a fatal shooting from March 28th (around 8:42 p.m.) in the 700 block of 29th Street NW after 26-year-old Jumari Ya’seen McCoy was found with gunshot wounds and later pronounced dead at a local hospital.  ABC 13
  • A 17-year-old was charged with grand larceny, possession of burglary tools, burglary of a structure, and excess property damage after breaking into Twinks 220 Diner in Iron Gate on March 28 at 2 a.m. — sheriff Kyle Moore said recovered items were valued at $2,133 and the damage was around $3,500 with no injuries reported.  WDBJ7
  • Virginia State Police said 27-year-old Darnell Wesley Adams died when his Triumph Thruxton 900 ran off Route 460 and struck a brick wall near the Blue Ridge Parkway in Botetourt County on Saturday at 11:15 p.m.—he was taken to Roanoke Memorial Hospital, and the crash is under investigation.  ABC 13

CULTURE NEWS

  • A small room in Fincastle Library houses hundreds of rare records about local history that retired librarian Rena Worthen has collected over decades—many are not found online. Local researchers use the room to trace their roots and the library plans to digitize some records using a grant.  Roanoke.com

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Gasoline prices in Roanoke have risen by 5.4 cents per gallon in the last week to average $2.87 on March 31—a rate 50 cents below what it was a year ago. GasBuddy warns that with current refinery issues and uncertain tariffs, prices may increase further in the coming weeks.  WDBJ7
