CRIME NEWS

  • Police investigated a shooting along the 700 block of 29th Street Northwest yesterday at 8:40 p.m.—a man who suffered gunshot wounds was taken to a local hospital and pronounced dead as authorities continued their investigation.  WFXR-TV

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The McAfee Knob Trailhead Bridge is now open for public use—giving visitors easier access to the popular hiking area.  WDBJ7

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Amtrak is scheduled to serve Christiansburg by 2027—preliminary construction is underway at the old Cambria train station. The new stop will connect New River Valley residents to cities like Roanoke, Richmond and major East Coast destinations and is expected to boost local businesses.  WSLS 10
  • VDOT issued traffic recommendations for race fans driving to Martinsville Speedway from March 28 to March 30 as heavy traffic is expected. Drivers from Roanoke and nearby areas are advised to follow road signs and electronic message boards and to expect automated flaggers when exiting the main gate on Route 220 northbound.  WSLS 10

  • Carilion Clinic said that many pregnant mothers can experience anxiety and depression after childbirth — risk factors include a lack of support, family history, and previous symptoms, and up to one in five women are affected.
