  • Roanoke police are working to build a stronger community bond by expanding outreach efforts that aim to increase trust between the department and residents — more details on upcoming initiatives have not been released.  WDBJ7
  • Stephen Tyree Charity, a third grader at Pulaski Elementary, volunteered at T.G. Howard Community Center—preparing backpacks for the back-to-school program and distributing copies of the Tribune to local families. CRIME NEWS

  • On Thursday a Radford man tried to bring a loaded handgun carrying seven bullets through a security checkpoint at Roanoke-Blacksburg Regional Airport+ officers confiscated the firearm and cited him for a criminal charge while he now faces a federal civil financial penalty.  ABC 13

  • Valley Metro will unveil new electric buses — a modern step toward cleaner transit — at Third Street Station on Salem Avenue Southeast on Tuesday, March 25 from 10:30 a.m. to 11:05 a.m. Parking will be available at the Campbell Avenue Parking Garage.  WFXR-TV

SPORTS NEWS

  • On March 21, the Salem Family YMCA hosted a basketball skills clinic for Y Afterschool and Y PASS kids where the top 20 Division III senior women’s basketball players led by Roanoke College’s coach Carla Flaherty offered skills training and a Q&A session. The event also featured a photo booth, autographs, and free t-shirts—activities that celebrated the upcoming NCAA Division III Women’s National Championship at Roanoke College tomorrow.  WSLS 10
