- ➤ Mineral Springs Baptist Church will host a charity ride and meal on Saturday, May 30 to benefit Blue Ridge Women’s Center at its new location on Elm Avenue and I-581 in Vinton. Registration starts at 9:00 a.m., lunch is $10 + donations are welcome. The Roanoke Star

- ➤ Gas prices have spiked in Virginia as AAA data shows that on Sunday, prices averaged $3.28 per gallon—up 18¢ from earlier levels while the national average reached $3.45. The increase is linked to the conflict in Iran + the closure of the Strait of Hormuz reducing oil flows. WSLS 10

- ➤ On Thursday, Mar. 12, the Bedford County School Board will meet at 6 p.m. at 311 South Bridge Street (public hearing to discuss the possible closure of Stewartsville Elementary and grade reconfiguration in the Staunton River Zone). - ➤ Buchanan County plans to support the struggling Appalachian School of Law in Grundy, which recorded a decade-long 19.37 million dollar deficit because of low enrollment. County officials are considering an annual appropriation of several million dollars+ a move that may lead to a tax increase for residents+. Cardinal News
