  • Roanoke’s Hope Center unveiled its free youth dance program Friday at the Dumas Center to keep kids engaged and build life skills. The center said it will continue the program annually — adding more art forms in the future.  WSLS 10

CULTURE NEWS

  • Cyrus Pace, who led Jefferson Center for 15 years in Roanoke, departs today to head the Academy Center of the Arts in downtown Lynchburg. His leadership helped the venue achieve record ticket sales amid a growing live music scene.  WVTF

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Roanoke City Public Schools discussed new reading programs — promising improved literacy support — at a meeting on Friday, Mar. 6; officials said they will use community feedback to shape upcoming initiatives.  WDBJ7
  • Roanoke Schools are reviewing options for activity buses (to boost transportation for extracurricular activities) during their ongoing budget process. Officials expect to provide further details once the evaluation is complete.  WDBJ7

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A proposed Virginia law would guide how schools discuss the January 6 riot, with state lawmakers expected to debate the measure soon. More details on the guidelines will be shared in the coming sessions.  WDBJ7

HEALTH NEWS

  • Research from Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia finds that AI storytelling boosts vocabulary but may reduce in-person interaction when children use it for homework. Other studies note that weight often returns after stopping Ozempic or Wegovy and that GLP-1 drugs may lower addiction risks.  WDBJ7
