COMMUNITY NEWS

  • After a subcontractor cleared trees on Feb. 7 without approval, the Andy Layne Trail was rerouted to a new entrance (half a mile south off Catawba Road). Roanoke Cement Company and the Roanoke Appalachian Trail Club are working on a permanent trailhead while hikers use the temporary parking area.  WDBJ7
  • Botetourt community members met this afternoon to review plans for a proposed Google data center in the county. They exchanged insights from documents and official conversations and agreed to attend future Board of Supervisors meetings for clear answers.  WSLS 10

SPORTS NEWS

  • Rural Retreat Indians won the VHSL Class 1 wrestling state championship with a score of 216 after defeating Grundy and Riverheads at the state tournament. Coach Cade Rouse (in his third season) led the team as several wrestlers earned state titles in individual events.  WDBJ7
