ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Firefighters responded after a small cooking fire forced entry into an apartment on Bluemont Avenue SW on Jan. 2; the blaze was quickly controlled, and one resident was displaced while no injuries were reported.  ABC 13
  • A fire yesterday damaged several businesses at Piccadilly Square — no injuries were reported, officials said.  WDBJ7
  • A fire broke out at a Franklin Road strip mall before 3:45 a.m. Friday, affecting nearby businesses including Roanoke Exchange; firefighters quickly controlled the blaze and reported no injuries—officials say an electrical fault caused the fire.  WSLS 10
  • An early-morning fire gutted Luxury Nails salon in southwest Roanoke’s Piccadilly Square Friday and caused no injuries, marking the business’s second setback in recent weeks.  Roanoke.com

  • A class of EMS-certified firefighting graduates finished their training and has joined Roanoke Fire-EMS, now fully staffed. The department said the new hires will boost emergency response for the community.  The Roanoke Times

  • Patrick County's only hospital, closed since 2017, will reopen Monday, Jan. 5 as Stuart Community Hospital in Stuart near the North Carolina line. Braden Health addressed past challenges by planning a ribbon-cutting and a checklist review for a smooth reopening.  WVTF
